When You’re Doing What You Love

When You’re Doing What You Love

Time flies by is an understatement! I’ve been in the physician relations and retention business for over 20 years, but last month Tiller-Hewitt Healthcare Strategies celebrated our 11th anniversary. It seemed like yesterday that we took the plunge, and what a wonderful adventure it’s been! And so, I’ve learned that time does fly by – but even faster when you’re doing what you love!
I am grateful to the finest hospitals/health systems, medical groups, and health related organizations for the privilege of their trust and partnership over the years. Those partnerships would not be possible if not for the wonderful people I’ve met and friendships that have formed along the way. I would love to recognize so many by name; instead I thought you would enjoy hearing from a few in upcoming blogs.

Guest Superstar Blogs

I’ve invited my super-star physician liaisons and colleagues to provide guest blogs over the next few months. They will share their fun, funny, and thoughtful journeys as they’ve paved (and sometimes plowed) their way to make their mark on our industry and the lives they’ve touched. I’m sure they will touch many hearts and funny bones.

11 + 11 = Success

In the spirit of 11 years, I thought I’d share a list of 11.5 brief lessons I’ve learned from many wonderful people including my parents, family, friends, mentors, bosses, colleagues, and yes, even strangers along the way. They’ve served me well. I’ve also included 11 wonderful quotes from one of my favorite doctors. Interestingly, the older I get the more I appreciate his wonderful words of wisdom!

  1. Don’t be an imitation – there is only ONE wonderful you – celebrate that!
  2. If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.
  3. Laugh at yourself and make others laugh.
  4. Leadership sets the tone & actions speak louder than words.
  5. Love what you do and who you do it with.
  6. No is really another word for not now.
  7. Proper Prior Preparation Prevents Poor Performance.
  8. Sometimes you just have to agree to disagree… and move on.
  9. The example you set could be the reason someone else changes their life for the better.
  10. You are what you think about.
  11. You wouldn’t go on a long journey without a map, don’t go through life without goals.

11.5 PRAY BIG – Sometimes God doesn’t give us what we think we want, not because we don’t deserve it, but because we ALL deserve so much more!

Theodor Seuss Geisel – A.K.A. Dr. Seuss

  1. Everything stinks until it’s finished.
  2. Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.
  3. Only you can control your future.
  4. Oh, the things you can find if you don’t stay behind.
  5. Will you succeed? Yes you will indeed! Ninety-eight and three-quarters percent guaranteed.
  6. Teeth are always in style.
  7. Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better… It’s not!
  8. Today you are you that is truer than true. There is not one alive who is youer than you.
  9. A person’s a person, no matter how small.
  10. Why fit in when you were born to stand out.
  11. You’re off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so get on your way!

My hope for you is that you too are doing what you love as time flies by. If not today, you’re working towards that goal for your tomorrow. On your journey, I pray that God will bless you exceedingly abundantly more than you could think, ask, or hope for!
